Steven Rajninger, FAIA, of Herman Coliver Locus Architecture (HCLA), has designed and cultivated a dual body of mission-driven work: Jewish sacred spaces which stir spirituality, ancient narratives and interpretation; and supportive housing celebrating individuals and the collective within an inclusive community. Steve was born and raised in San Francisco as a first-generation American and son of Holocaust survivors. Still bearing the scars of his parents’ exile, he developed a visceral sense of the importance of feeling part of a community, reflecting an interwoven set of values and strengths and an innovative, artistic, narrative-driven design.
