Ron Glait—Contemporary Jewish Art: A Guide for the Perplexed

- Pacific Time Virtual Program

Contemporary art can offer us limitless opportunities to connect with the complex world we live in. But how does one start to uncover the many possible meanings behind an artwork? Discover how to understand contemporary art and how it can help us interpret the world by exploring artworks by today’s Jewish artists looking at the many aspects of Jewish culture, identity, and community.

Session 1: “Where Do We Start?”
We will contextualize contemporary art within the discipline of Art-History and learn some tools that will help us view and engage with contemporary Jewish art.

Session 2: "California Jewish Open": A Virtual Exhibit Tour
Using the tools we learned in the first session, we will explore the wide range of ideas from artists of diverse identities and generations, presented in the exhibition. Together we will try and answer: How are artists looking to the many aspects of Jewish culture, identity, and community to foster, reimagine, hold, or discover connection?
