Dmitri Gaskin—Klezmer Music: Culture, Chords, and Chronology (In person only)

January 21 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Program Fee: $12.00

In partnership with Congregation Emeth

Dmitri Gaskin will provide a deep look into the forces that formed and shaped Klezmer throughout the ages, and the function it played in Eastern European Jewish culture. We will also look at the way the music (and musicians) interacted with the surrounding cultures in the Pale of Settlement. The lecture will be illustrated with recorded samples and live performance to help us absorb and contextualize the learnings.

This lecture is suitable for non-musicians and musicians alike.
