The Taubman Lectures
Prof. Paula Fredriksen—Just Like Everybody Else, Only More So: Jewish Romans and the Rise of Christianity
(In person only)

- Pacific Time

Presented by The Herman P. and Sophia Taubman Chair in Jewish Studies in partnership with the Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life, and the Jewish studies program at UC Berkeley

Many gods lived in the Roman Empire. All ancient peoples, including Jews and, eventually, Christians, knew this to be the case. In three lectures, we will survey how all these different groups established working relations with the gods of others; and we will trace how the apocalyptic convictions of one late Second Temple Jewish movement did—and did not—lead to a radical reconfiguration of heaven and earth.

3 sessions:

  • Tuesday, October 25 @ 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Bancroft Hotel, 2680 Bancroft Way, Berkeley
  • Thursday,  October 27 @ 7:00- 9:00  pm at the Bancroft Hotel
  • Sunday, October 30 @ 5:30 - 8:00 pm (Lecture followed by a reception) at Alumni House on the UC campus
