Rabbi Peretz Wolf-Prusan—Mind, Body and Soul: Maimonides’ Eight Chapters (Zoom Only)
- Pacific Time Virtual Program
Your Shabbat-Prep Practice
The Eight Chapters, as it has come to be known, was called by Maimonides, “An Introduction to Avot." It was written sometime between 1158 and 1165, much of it while living as a refugee in Fez, Morocco, and completed in Fostat, old capital of Egypt, between the ages of 23 and 30. However, it is much more than an introduction to his commentary on Pirkei Avot (The Sayings of the Ancestors). "The Eight Chapters” just might be the best introduction to Maimonides’ philosophy, and perhaps the best introduction to all medieval Jewish philosophy. It is a prescription to you, his beloved reader, for a healthy mind, body and soul.
