Welcoming New Lehrhaus' FIRST staff member
A "she-hecheyanu moment:" Jim Mavrikios joins New Lehrhaus as our Program Manager. We are thrilled to welcome our first staff member (yes, up until now everything had been managed by volunteers)!
Jim brings more than 20 years of continuing education experience to his role at New Lehrhaus. In 2001 he founded Pacific Arabic, a language school in downtown San Francisco. As director and registrar until 2020, he managed faculty and administrative staff while also teaching Standard and Moroccan Arabic. He’s also taught Arabic and Comparative Semitics at JCC San Francisco and led workshops at Shaar Zahav.
A native New Yorker, Jim moved to the Bay Area in 1995, and has been active in the Jewish community here for the past 15 years. He also spent four years in the Puerto Rico Jewish community and enjoys talking about his experiences there. While living on the island, he designed and led professional development seminars in business and legal communications. He also served as caller for the San Juan Squares, the only square dance club in Puerto Rico.
Jim and all of us are delighted he will bring his expertise in community building and adult education to New Lehrhaus.
