New ways of engaging with Jewish life and practice have emerged in the Bay Area. This program will highlight four of them—Urban Adamah, Wilderness Torah, the Jewish Studio Project, and Chai Cycle. Each presenter will give a short talk, followed by a Q&A and an opportunity for participants to share their own experiences with "alternative Jewish practice."
Urban Adamah, an educational farm and community center in Berkeley, integrates the practices of Jewish tradition, mindfulness, sustainable agriculture, and social action to build loving, just, and sustainable communities.
Wilderness Torah awakens and celebrates earth-based Jewish traditions through village-building programs that promote healing, belonging, and resilience.
Jewish Studio Project (JSP) envisions a future in which every person engages their creativity to cultivate resilience, well-being, and spiritual vitality. Through its core methodology, JSP participants engage with Jewish text and art-making to cultivate their creative capacity.
Chai Cycle is a Jewish community whose members find meaning and experience Jewish community through bicycling and text study, engaging in stimulating conversation about Jewish ideas.
