Madeleine (Mindl) Cohen is academic director of the Yiddish Book Center (Amherst, MA) and a visiting assistant professor in Jewish Studies at Mount Holyoke College. She has a PhD in comparative literature from the University of California, Berkeley. Mindl is also president of the board of directors of In geveb: A Journal of Yiddish Studies. Her research and teaching interests include literature about belonging and relationship to place in diasporic culture; literary translation; and the centering of Yiddish women writers. Mindl is an avid amateur violinist playing with the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra.
