Dr. Sara Feldman has taught Yiddish at Harvard University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds an M.A. in Judaic Studies and a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of Michigan, where she was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Frankel Institute. Her scholarship focuses on the interplay of Yiddish, Russian, and Hebrew in modern Jewish culture, with broader interests in multilingualism, translation, queer and gender studies, migration, and contemporary Jewish culture. She is co-editor of Black, Jewish, and Beautiful: Contemporary Blewish Voices (Syracuse University Press, 2026).

Feldman practices a communicative approach to language teaching that cultivates not only literacy but fluency in spoken Yiddish, treating it as a living language and culture. Her courses explore Yiddish culture old and new, traditional and radical, and invite students to contribute to it through projects such as Undzer Mishpokhe: A Queer Yiddish Curriculum Supplement.
