Step into the vibrant world of early twentieth-century Yiddish theater while advancing your language skills through the dramatic works of Peretz Hirschbein, Ossip Dymov, and Sholem Aleichem. This six-session online course uses classic one-act plays as a rich linguistic resource, where dialogue reveals the rhythms of spoken Yiddish and dramatic texts illuminate idiomatic expression, cultural context, and the textures of Eastern European Jewish life.

Conducted in a mix of Yiddish and English, this course will encourage you to read aloud, discuss, and work toward performing excerpts from the plays. This active engagement develops reading fluency with unvocalized texts, expands vocabulary related to theater and social relationships, and deepens understanding of both language structure and the cultural landscape of Jewish modernity.

The course is designed for intermediate to advanced learners comfortable reading Yiddish in the alef-beys.
