Judeo-Moroccan Arabic 1

- Pacific Time Virtual Program

$150.00
This course begins with an overview of Judeo-Arabic as a linguistic tradition, then focuses on the Arabic dialects historically spoken by Jewish communities in Morocco. Students will explore how these dialects are recorded and written using the Jewish (Hebrew) alphabet, and will gain hands-on exposure to the language through short texts, simple dialogues, and characteristic expressions drawn from everyday use. The course also includes practical exercises and introduces the basic grammatical structures and core vocabulary of Judeo-Moroccan Arabic. By the end of the course, students will have acquired both a linguistic foundation and a broader understanding of the Judeo-Moroccan Arabic-speaking world.

Who this is for: Students interested in Jewish languages, Arabic dialects, or North African Jewish culture. Participants should be able to read and write the Jewish (Hebrew) alphabet. No prior knowledge of Arabic is required.

What you'll leave with: Practical skills in reading and understanding Judeo-Moroccan Arabic texts and dialogues, along with a working knowledge of its basic grammar, vocabulary, and writing conventions.
