Robby Adler Peckerar · Radical Jewish Reading Circle
- Pacific Time Virtual Program
What makes a text radically Jewish?
Join us for the Radical Jewish Reading Circle—three evenings of reading, thinking, and conversation about radical thinkers of Jewish origin.
We'll read three radical thinkers of Jewish origin. This month we begin with Isaac Deutscher, starting with his famous essay "The Non-Jewish Jew." Over the course of our time together, we'll explore figures who grappled with revolution, nationalism, identity, and belonging. Some wrote explicitly about Jewishness; others barely mentioned it.
At a moment when authoritarianism is rising and nationalist movements—including within Jewish life—are gaining strength, what can these thinkers teach us? What might their struggles with universalism, particularism, and the dangers of ethnic tribalism tell us about the crises we face today?
No background required. All texts provided. This is a circle—we'll think through these questions together in small-group discussion.
Three Wednesdays: December 3, 10 & 17 at 7–8:30pm Pacific Time
