This course, Introductory Yiddish, is an Educational Program offered by New Lehrhaus. It is scheduled for fifteen sessions beginning October 20, 2026 and ending December 17, 2026. Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Pacific Time.

Lomir redn yidish, let's speak Yiddish! This beginner Yiddish course is designed for students with little or no prior Yiddish who want to learn to speak, read, and write the language. Using the In Eynem textbook alongside authentic Yiddish songs, games, and media, you'll build a practical foundation in Yiddish conversation, vocabulary, grammar, and culture. You'll learn the Yiddish alphabet (alef-beys) in both print and cursive, introduce yourself and others, make everyday small talk, and describe your daily routine, all while exploring Yiddish culture past and present.

About the Teacher
Sara Feldman is an experienced Yiddish language teacher who has taught at Harvard and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of Michigan. Her approach is grounded in language pedagogy: the goal is not simply to decode texts or learn about Yiddish, but to develop real ability to speak, understand, read, and write it. She treats Yiddish as a living, evolving language rather than a subject to memorize. Her own work, from a queer Yiddish curriculum project to research on Yiddish's entanglement with Russian and Hebrew in modern Jewish culture, reflects that same instinct to treat the language as something still very much in motion.
