Susan Gilson Miller in conversation with David Biale: Years of Glory: Recovering the History of the Holocaust in North Africa (Virtual on Zoom)

- Pacific Time

In partnership with and a part of The JFCSC Holocaust Center Day of Learning and with the Jewish Studies Program at UC Davis

Historians have paid little attention to the story of how ordinary lives were reshaped by World War II in North Africa. The wartime experiences of Nelly Benatar, a Moroccan Jewish lawyer who helped save thousands of refugee lives and to restore basic rights to the stateless men and women who survived the Holocaust, offers a deeper understanding of the complex currents that shaped Jewish North African lives during the war. The traumas of genocide, the struggle for anti-colonial liberation, and the eventual Jewish exodus from Arab lands all take on new meaning when reflected through Nelly Benatar’s life.
